Medicines in School

Administration of medicines in school         pitr_Medicine_icon

If children are well enough to attend school, we are able to administer medically prescribed medicines at lunchtimes only, providing a consent form is completed.  Copies of the form are available from the school reception office or can be downloaded from this Link. The following procedure should be followed:

  • Parents/carers must deliver medication to the school reception office with the completed request medication form, or be ready to complete and sign one on the day.Medication must be prescribed by their GP and in its original container with the child’s name clearly labelled, in date with the required dosage and any other instructions required.

  • Medicines requiring refrigeration will be stored in a fridge in the medical room.

  • A school first aider will administer the medication over the lunchtime period. It would be helpful if you could remind your child to go for their medicine at the appropriate time.

  • All medicines will be returned to parents/carers at the end of the day, via your child’s class teacher at dismissal time.

  • Our procedures in relation to epipens and inhalers remain unchanged in that we will continue to hold an additional one in school, either in the medical room or the classroom, as appropriate.

Thank you for you cooperation, which will enable the administration of medicines to run smoothly.
